Bobby Hutcherson the most inventive vibraphonists passed away
Bobby Hutcherson the man that shaped jazz history died at his home in Montara, Calif. On Aug. 15, after a long battle with emphysema, according to a representative of his family.
Hutcherson was best known for his post-bop recordings for Blue Note Records in the 1960s and ’70s, Hutcherson played with a litany of jazz greats as both bandleader and sideman during a career spanning more than 50 years. In 2014 we saw Hutcherson return to Blue Note Records with “Enjoy the View“, recorded at Ocean Way Studios in Hollywood with Joey DeFrancesco, David Sanborn, and Billy Hart. The quartet performed four sold-out shows at the SFJAZZ Center in February, prior to the album’s release.
We will all remember Hutcherson as a legend, and legends will never be forgotten.
